DEATH TOLL REACHES 60,000

Here's what has happened:

Tsunami death toll reaches 60,000.
  • On the day after Christmas, the biggest earthquake in 40 years occurred under water.
  • The massive earthquake caused enormous tidal waves to hit six nations.
  • The death toll has reached 68,000 people.
Rescue workers recovered more than 300 bodies on Thailand's remote Phi Phi Island on December 28, 2004, two days after a series of powerful waves devastated the tourist paradise. Bloated and decaying bodies continued to wash ashore as hopes of finding survivors in the rubble of hotels and shops slowly faded on the tiny island made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio's film 'The Beach.' This Reuters map shows the south east Asia region that was devastated by powerful waves that struck the entire region. (Reuters Graphic)

Here's what you can do:

1) Pray.

2) Mention the crisis on your xanga. Inform your readership about what has happened and what they can do.

2) Give. Please, please, please, if you are at all able, consider making a gift of any size to relief organizations. Amazon.com is collecting donations for the Red Cross. Right now, over 20,000 people have already stepped forward and given over a million dollars to the multi-billion dollar relief effort. Go there now and see what you can do.
